Convo with love ghost
Updated: Sep 11, 2023
Love Ghost is an alternative rock band that hails from Los Angeles, California. The band is comprised of Finnegan Bell on lead vocals and guitar, Ryan Stevens on bass and backing vocals, Daniel Alcala on guitar, engineer and backing vocals, Samson Young on drums and backing vocals, and Cory Batchler on keys and backing vocals.
Together, they create haunting music that will stick with you long after you've finished listening. The band draws inspiration from a range of musical genres, including ethereal grunge, lo-fi bedroom hip-hop, emo, trap beats, and guitar-driven alternative rock.
Their sound has been compared to iconic bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins and My Chemical Romance, among others.
One of their recent releases, "Jealousy," is a powerful grunge rock song that speaks to the emotions of anyone who has ever experienced betrayal, loneliness, rejection, or being lied to.
Songwriter Finnegan Bell explains that he wrote the song as a way to cope with his own experiences and to let others know that they are not alone in their struggles.
He hopes that the song can serve as a "mental bandage" for anyone who needs it. Love Ghost has been making waves in the music industry and has recently toured Europe, where they played at the Rockpalast in Germany.
They also toured Mexico City in August, playing shows at both Auditorio BB and Amazon's Gamergy Festival, which was broadcast to all of Latin America. If you're a fan of alternative rock that speaks to the heart, Love Ghost is a band that you need to check out.
Their unique blend of genres and haunting lyrics will leave you feeling deeply moved and inspired. Keep an eye out for their upcoming releases and be sure to catch them live if you have the chance.
They've previously given us the chance to interview them on multiple occasions, and this time we focused on their most recent work, which you can read about below.
1- What can fans expect from your new record?
It’s definitely more experimental and in my opinion more edgy than some of our older music.
2- What, in your opinion, has changed between this version and earlier releases?
This upcoming release was less of a collaborative project. So in my opinion the messages and music is more distilled.
3- You put out a lot of music, with collaborations. How do you decide that and how does the process of creating the songs work?
I’m blessed to find artists that I think are really cool and sometimes I’m fortunate enough to work with them. Each writing process is slightly different, but usually, the more seamless it comes together the better the collaboration will be.
4- What is the current key goal now and how do you handle the band's popularity?
I mean the goal is just to reach as many people as possible and I’m hoping for the best. I think that popularity is both a blessing and a curse depending on when/ who and how it hits. Or if it does for that matter.
5- What are the band’s biggest achievements?
Being in Rolling Stone magazine was pretty epic.
6- What are some of the challenges you face as a band?
It’s definitely difficult to get everyone on the same page, being in a band is a lot of fighting.
7- How does your band manage to stay together so far?
We haven’t… there’s been many line-up changes over the years, so I had to re-evaluate things going forward.
8- Does the band have any tour dates lined up?
Yes, we will be going on tour in Mexico in the fall.
9- What merchandise does the band sell, and where can it be purchased?
You can buy our Merch on our website, and there’s shirts, beanies, chapstick, hoodies, and much more!
