The song "ATTRACTION" is a mesmerizing creation, born from the talented pen of the band's frontman and chief songwriter, Jack Baldwin. It's a fast-paced anthem that explores the experience of being irresistibly drawn to someone, to the point where it's almost painful. This magnetic narrative is brilliantly brought to life in their signature style.

This talented trio, formed by brothers Jack and Henry Baldwin along with their childhood friend Ed Barnes in Sussex, Southern England, has been gigging relentlessly since their teenage years. "The ROLF's 'Mood Swings': A Sonic Journey Inspired by Legends"

Every now and then, an artist emerges who draws inspiration from a unique blend of influences, creating music that's both enigmatic and captivating. Such is the case with The ROLF and his latest record, "Mood Swings." In this blog post, we'll take a deep dive into the mind behind the music, exploring the influences, collaborations, and stories that shape this one-of-a-kind project.

First and foremost, The ROLF is not your typical band. It's more of a solo project, with the driving force behind most of the tunes being PerD. While The ROLF is primarily a one-person show, "The sorrows of an American," the closing track on "Mood Swings," features a guest artist in the form of Mr. Martin Q Larsson, a composer and, in this case, a trumpet player. This collaboration adds an intriguing layer to the project's already rich and diverse sound.

Elvis Presley serves as a significant influence on The ROLF's music. His unique blend of rock, blues, and charisma echoes through the tracks, infusing them with a timeless quality. The project's ability to blend genres and transcend eras is a testament to the power of Elvis's influence. One of the most interesting aspects of "Mood Swings" is the addition of a trumpet in the closing track, "The sorrows of an American," courtesy of Martin Q Larsson. This unexpected twist adds a new dimension to the music, enriching the sonic landscape and making the project even more intriguing.

"The smile off your Face" is a song that was born from a mundane yet relatable experience: receiving a parking ticket. In -67, Paul McCartney wrote "Lovely Rita" after receiving a parking ticket. In the same vein, "The smile off your face" captures the annoyance and amusement of finding a ticket attached to your car. PerD draws lyrical inspiration from the thought-provoking works of Jenny Holzer, whose posters he encountered during a visit to Tate Modern, London. This borrowing of words and ideas transforms the music into a unique blend of art, culture, and storytelling.

"Mood Swings" takes listeners on a journey through time and emotions. From the fast-paced "Tales of a Juggler" to the thought-provoking "The smile off your Face," the record explores different moods and eras. "All cause of You" delves into the feeling of alienation, while "The sorrows of an American" explores the gradual loss of everything one holds dear.

In "Mood Swings," The ROLF has crafted a record that defies expectations, blending influences from across the spectrum to create a musical experience that's both familiar and refreshingly new. Dive into the music, and you'll find a sonic landscape shaped by legends and a creative spirit unafraid to push boundaries.

"A Sophisticated Soiree of Sound: Late TV's 'Vanity City'

London quartet Late TV invites you to an audiovisual journey with their debut full-length album, "Vanity City." A stunning blend of moody Art Rock, New Wave, Jazz, Funk, Yacht Rock, and Indie, this record is a rare gem that deserves a place in your musical collection. Released on Friday, 8th September, as a limited edition 180mg splatter LP and available for download via the Late TV Bandcamp, "Vanity City" is a stylish concoction that beckons you to sink into the depths of its sound.

Imagine yourself reclining in a black leather Le Corbusier chair, your perch strategically positioned next to a balcony window. Beyond the glass, high-rise lights twinkle on the horizon. This is the setting for "Vanity City," a sonic suite comprising ten songs that blend the quartet's diverse influences into a singular, noir-tinged cocktail of sound. It's music poured into an elegant glass for your auditory delight.

"The songs on this record are designed to flash up like set-pieces in a late-night movie," explains the band's lyricist, Luke J Novak. Each track acts as a sideways rumination on various aspects of the romantic experience. Throughout the album, you'll find recurring themes of love, desire, passion, confusion, frustration, jealousy, and excitement. These themes are woven into narratives and delivered through music that walks a line from the likes of David Bowie and Talking Heads through to Bad Bad Not Good and Mildlife.

The album's title, "Vanity City," draws inspiration from the concept of a 'vanity address.' It's the idea that a residential building on an obscure back street gains a touch of grandeur by having one side door open onto a desirable boulevard. This concept perfectly encapsulates the essence of Late TV's musical journey.

Late TV, comprising Luke J Novak on vocals and guitar, Chicago transplant Ryan Szanyi on bass, Richie 'Beu' Bowman on drums, and Martin Coxall on keyboards (now featuring Hannah Stacey on keyboards and vocals after Martin's departure to Madrid post-recording), explores the postmodern wastelands of pop as high-brow/low-brow mutant junk dwellers. They are ardent collectors of the shards of our fragmented culture, using them as building blocks for something entirely new.

"Vanity City" is a musical odyssey that fuses diverse influences into a cohesive and captivating whole. Late TV's creative prowess shines through in their ability to craft a noir-inspired masterpiece that defies categorization. This is an album for those who appreciate the art of sound and storytelling in music. It's a sophisticated soiree of sound, inviting you to indulge in the elegance of "Vanity City."

On September 15th, he gifted the world with his latest creation, an infectious nu-disco anthem titled 'Destiny.'

"It expresses the desire to share love with a soulmate, always go further together without worrying about tomorrow, and build a life as a couple with the most beautiful memories." This narrative reflects the pure and timeless sentiment of finding a soulmate and cherishing every moment.

Tiam Wills is more than just a musician; he's a sonic storyteller who draws inspiration from a wide range of musical influences. His sound takes root in the groovy disco funk era of the '70s and '80s, seamlessly blending nu-disco and disco house with a dash of psychedelic art pop. In doing so, he pays homage to the carefree spirit of that era, inviting listeners to embrace the dance floor and surrender to the rhythms that transport them back to the heyday of disco.

'Destiny' is more than just a song; it's a glimpse into the boundless potential of music as a vessel for human experience. Tiam Wills invites you to embark on a sonic journey that explores the profound love between soulmates and the intricate tapestry of individual destinies. "20 Year Short Break's 'Bring it on': Unleashing the Dark Side of Rock"

In a world where relationships are often portrayed through rose-colored glasses, there's something undeniably powerful about a band unafraid to delve into the shadows. Enter 20 Year Short Break, a group that's all about authentic and honest rock. Their latest anthem, "Bring it on," is a testament to their commitment to the raw, unfiltered side of music.

"Bring it on" is no love ballad, no feel-good anthem. It's a sonic journey into the potential dark side of any relationship. The track is powerful, unfiltered, and perhaps even a bit gritty. It doesn't aim to provide solutions or wrap things up neatly in a bow. Instead, it's about letting off steam, about embracing the raw emotions that often hide in the shadows of love. The truth, in this case, doesn't necessarily align with the narrative, and that's perfectly okay.

With "Bring it on," 20 Year Short Break intentionally exaggerates scenes from a relationship, harnessing the intense and unfiltered energy that comes with it. It's a rock anthem that doesn't hold back, a declaration that relationships are complex, often messy, and always worth exploring from every angle. 20 Year Short Break is a musical force that doesn't conform to expectations. Their sound is handmade and hard-hitting, with a flexibility that spans the spectrum from heavy to soft, metal to blues. Yet, one constant threads through it all: catchy melodies, driving rhythms, and explosive riffs that strike at the heart of the listener.

The band was founded in 2019 by Dan Wright (guitar) and Rob Miller (vocals), marking their return to the musical world after a two-decade hiatus. Driven by talent and an unwavering passion for genuine rock music, they embarked on a creative journey that saw them emerge in 2020 with their debut single, "Old Dusty Road." This resurrection happened precisely 20 years after their last musical endeavor together.

20 Year Short Break isn't just a band; they're a tight-knit unit that comes alive on stage, inspiring their audience with their unity and team spirit. Their electrifying live performances create an atmosphere that's palpable and engaging, urging the crowd to sing along and connect emotionally.

"Bring it on" was unleashed to the world on October 6, 2023. It's a track that's already set rooms on fire when performed live, and now it's time to ignite the world online. In a musical landscape often dominated by the expected and the safe, 20 Year Short Break dares to be different, reminding us that it's the unapologetic and raw moments that truly resonate in the world of rock.

With the dawn of new love, a redefined relationship with self, and a new collaborator in the form of producer and mixer ROOKES, Bliss Carmxn breathed new life into "Hey Oh Hey." The result is a song that's not just upbeat but also conveys the complex feelings of letting go. It's that moment when you realize that saying the words, "Don't say that you're mine / Never gonna know what you're hiding / Don't waste your time," is the moment you understand it's time to move on.

Bliss Carmxn isn't just an artist; they are a force of creativity that refuses to be confined by any one genre. "Ryan Wayne's 'Crow Amongst the Sparrows': A Musical Phoenix Rising"

In the ever-evolving world of music, there are artists who create for the love of it, and then there are those whose artistic journey takes them through storms, valleys, and, ultimately, to a place of reawakening. Ryan Wayne, a Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, embodies the latter narrative, and his upcoming album, "Crow Amongst the Sparrows," is a testament to his incredible journey.

Ryan Wayne is no stranger to the world of music. He first gained recognition as a founding member and songwriter in the critically acclaimed and award-winning band, The Warped 45s, signed to Pheromone Recordings. But life had different plans for him. In early 2022, after several years away from touring and recording, Ryan faced a significant personal challenge. He suffered two strokes that reshaped the course of his life. It's in the face of adversity that true resilience often emerges. For Ryan, this challenge became a pivotal moment, drawing him back into the world of music, where his heart truly belongs.

As part of his healing process and musical revival, Ryan took it upon himself to craft a series of self-produced songs. But he didn't embark on this journey alone. He teamed up with Grammy-Award winning producer and mixing engineer, Malcolm Burn, known for his work with iconic artists like Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith, and Daniel Lanois. Together, they gave life to the songs that will form "Crow Amongst the Sparrows," slated for release in 2023.

Ryan's connection to music runs deep. Born and raised in the blue-collar town of Oshawa, just east of Toronto, he was immersed in a world of melodies from a young age. His father, a songwriting truck driver, instilled in him a love for music that would shape his life. Those warm summer nights spent singing with family at the cabin in the Madawaska Valley became the backdrop for a lifelong love affair with music.

Throughout his musical career, Ryan has had the privilege of sharing the stage with renowned artists like The Drive By Truckers, The Skydiggers, Elliott Brood, Deer Tick, The Once, and Justin Rutledge. He's also left his mark on various recordings, including playing mandolin on Dan Mangan's seminal record, "Nice, Nice, Very Nice." "Nigel Brown's Musical Odyssey: 'Here Comes The Truth'

In the realm of music, there are artists who create with a sense of purpose, allowing their creative muse to guide them along their journey. Nigel Brown, a prolific musician and composer, is one such artist. His eleventh studio album, "Here Comes The Truth," showcases his incredible songwriting abilities, honed over years of dedication and creative exploration. But his talents don't end there; Nigel is also a composer for television and a contributor to various music libraries, including Universal, DeWolfe, and APM. Let's delve into the artistic world of Nigel Brown and explore the stories and inspirations behind this remarkable album.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Nigel's creative process is his ability to embrace the flow of inspiration. He has discovered that his best songs come to life when he goes with the creative current. When a melody and a couple of lyrics align, the magic happens swiftly and naturally. Nigel's approach is to let the melody guide him rather than to overthink the process, allowing it to develop organically. It's like creating something out of thin air, where the music unfolds as if by its own volition.

The title track, "Here Comes the Truth," exemplifies Nigel's spontaneous and intuitive songwriting method. In the rough demo of the song, one can witness the entire composition nearly complete. His love for creating meaningful stories and lyrics is evident throughout the album. "Anne-Joleen," one of the standout tracks, tells the story of an aging and fading actress, nearing the end of her career. Nigel's lyrics vividly portray her world with lines like "lights around the mirror" and "paradise is calling," capturing the essence of her final moments on the stage. It's a track that Nigel himself holds dear, and his passion for storytelling shines through.

Nigel's skills extend beyond songwriting; he also plays all the guitars, bass, and keyboards on the album. His son, Charlie, a talented drummer, contributes the rhythmic foundation for the tracks. The result is an album that closely aligns with the sound Nigel has always aspired to create. The strumming, jangling guitars, tight bass and drums, and smooth vocal harmonies encapsulate the essence of the 60s and 70s, the musical era that resonates with Nigel.

While Nigel doesn't aim to emulate any specific artist, influences like Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Mark Knopfler, and The Beatles subtly shine through in his work. These iconic musicians have played a pivotal role in shaping Nigel's musical journey.

"Here Comes The Truth" is a testament to Nigel Brown's ability to craft music that not only entertains but also resonates deeply with listeners. The album is a reflection of his lifetime dedicated to the art of making music. Nigel's creative process, combined with his son's rhythmic prowess, has led him closer to the sound he's always envisioned. The result is a musical odyssey that invites listeners to join him on this creative voyage. It's not just an album; it's a testimony to the power of artistry and the enduring spirit of a seasoned musician.

"Birds Are Better: Unveiling a New Musical Identity in 'The Loop'

In the ever-evolving landscape of music, artists often find themselves at creative crossroads, leading to the discovery of a new musical identity. Stian Fjelldal, a Norwegian musician celebrated for his quirky Southern Norwegian folk-pop, found himself at one such juncture. His musical journey, marked by hits like "Håbløs" and "Sammen i Mørket," had been propelled by his unique sound. However, a pivotal question began to take root in his mind: Did he genuinely resonate with his own music? This question, while daunting, became a turning point in Fjelldal's career, eventually leading to the birth of his new project, Birds Are Better.

The artist Stian Fjelldal had crafted a successful career, complete with a record deal with Warner Music and a series of notable songs. His fifth studio album, "Hus," released in January 2022, should have been a crowning achievement. Yet, Fjelldal couldn't help but feel a sense of detachment from his own creations. His honesty and introspection allowed him to confront a somewhat unsettling realization: he might not even listen to his own music if it were crafted by another artist.

Fjelldal's journey took him on a transformative musical exploration. He began creating songs in English, where he uncovered a different voice—a voice closer to his heart and devoid of preconceived notions about his artistic identity. The ensuing three years were marked by artistic growth and reconnection with the joy of making music. He embarked on a journey to explore uncharted territory and found inspiration beyond the boundaries he had once set for himself.

In 2023, this musical odyssey bore fruit with the release of "The Island – Part One," the debut album from Birds Are Better. This album marked the beginning of a two-part project. Fjelldal composed and recorded the music at his home in Oslo, and the final production, mixing, and mastering were helmed by his talented friend, Håkon Gebhardt. The debut album unveiled a new musical identity, one that incorporated Fjelldal's broader influences and unshackled creativity.

As part of the Birds Are Better project, "The Loop" emerges as the second single from the upcoming second album, "The Island – Part II." This track embodies the spirit of creative renewal and showcases a fusion of influences, painting a musical landscape that draws parallels to Fleet Foxes, Simon and Garfunkel, and A-ha.

In "The Loop," Birds Are Better weaves a tale of love, loss, betrayal, and even space travel. It's an evocative narrative that mirrors the artist's own journey of self-discovery and reinvention. As the track resonates with audiences worldwide, it's clear that Stian Fjelldal, now operating as Birds Are Better, has truly found his musical calling, one unburdened by expectations and rich with creativity. The loop of artistic evolution continues, embracing new horizons and promising captivating music to come.
