Christopher Labi Rance and His Journey with "Northbound Track"

Once upon a time, there was a small-town student band called “Labi Rance,” playing gigs in intimate venues around Chemnitz, Germany. This band, which I was proud to be a part of, captured the essence of our youth and musical dreams.

Back then, we recorded some of our songs with a four-track cassette player. Those cherished tunes are essentially all that remains of Labi Rance, as the band members have taken mostly divergent paths since 1995.

Unfortunately, there is no hope of the original Labi Rance lineup getting together again – only former drummer Geoffrey M. Svalbard is back. But it’s still great rocking a bit on our own and jamming alongside fellow musicians and collaborators, like Michael Engels and Silke Natho. Another wonderful project is “SYLVATIC BLACK” with Miriam de Silva.

Our latest creation, "Northbound Track," is a testament to this incredible journey. This record is not just a collection of songs but a reflection of our musical evolution and passion. It's a mix of old-school vibes and contemporary sounds, capturing the essence of our early days while embracing the future.

The single was produced by Yoikyasi at SomaTree Studios, an off-grid sound resort studio nestled in the forests of the Key Peninsula, Washington state. This unique location, rich with natural sounds, played a significant role in the album’s production. The animal sounds incorporated into the track were recorded from this off-grid, forested environment, adding an organic layer to the music.

The creation of "Wake Up Inner Earth Star!" was a spontaneous and effortless process. Benjamin Chenovik sent an avant-garde piano sketch to Yoikyasi, who instantly improvised a lead synth track.
