Social Gravy Unleashes “Lone Wolf”: A Fiery Return to Form

After a few years of silence, indie rock duo Social Gravy is back with a vengeance. The band, helmed by Brad Kohn and Vee Bordukov, has returned with their electrifying new single “Lone Wolf,” marking their first release since 2020. This high-octane track is set to lead the charge for a fresh batch of singles and an upcoming EP, igniting excitement among their global fanbase.

"Lone Wolf" is a blazing, riff-driven anthem that clocks in at just over two minutes, but its impact lingers much longer. Drawing clear inspiration from rock legends like The Black Keys, Soundgarden, and the swagger of Aerosmith, the song mixes bluesy guitar hooks with a gritty, unfiltered energy. The infectious core guitar riff anchors the track while the rhythm section pushes the pace forward, creating a hard-hitting yet melodically rich sound.

Brad Kohn's powerhouse vocal delivery enhances the song’s emotional depth, tackling themes of longing and escape. The lyrics, such as “It’s a long way just to love you, short shot to the moon,” capture the band’s signature style: raw emotion balanced with catchy melodies. Social Gravy proves once again that they’re masters at blending vulnerability with intensity, creating a sound that’s both electrifying and introspective.

The duo’s unwavering commitment to crafting music driven by genuine passion shines through in “Lone Wolf.” From its heartfelt lyrics to its carefully chosen instrumentation, the song exemplifies the duo’s dedication to the indie rock scene, holding true to their roots while still pushing creative boundaries. The track feels like a perfect return for the duo, who are often praised for their “romantic rock’n’roll” style and their unique ability to tap into the mainstream without losing their edge.

Since their inception, Social Gravy has earned recognition for their blend of riff-heavy melodies and emotional depth. Their previous work, including the 2017 album Behind Every Yes, the 2019 singles “California” and “Let It Out,” and the 2020 EP A Different Kind, has been lauded for its fusion of rock grit and heartfelt lyricism. And with “Lone Wolf,” it’s clear that Social Gravy is poised to continue that tradition, offering a sound that resonates deeply with fans of both indie and mainstream rock alike.

"Lone Wolf" is not just a single; it's a statement. It marks the beginning of a new era for Social Gravy, one that promises more electrifying music to come. Fans can expect more of the same raw intensity and melodic mastery in the upcoming months as the duo releases more tracks and prepares for their next big project. With "Lone Wolf," Social Gravy once again proves that they are a force to be reckoned with in the indie rock world.

Manava Lery: A Rising Star of Jazz and Charleston

In the vibrant world of modern jazz, few artists capture the spirit of both innovation and tradition like Manava Lery. Born in Paris's culturally rich 14th arrondissement, Manava grew up in a household steeped in the melodies of jazz and classical music. This dual influence shaped her artistic soul, laying the foundation for a career that fuses genres and transcends boundaries. Today, Manava splits her time between the idyllic island of Saint Martin, mainland France, and Tahiti, where she crafts her music and finds inspiration for her multifaceted artistry.

Manava Lery began her career with smooth jazz, an avenue that allowed her to explore her softer, more contemplative side. Tracks like The Peasant and Butterfly on Her Shoulder envelop listeners in a cocoon of sensuality and elegance, offering a tranquil escape. Yet, her artistic curiosity drove her beyond the confines of smooth jazz. By infusing her music with swing, bossa nova, blues, and Charleston influences, she created a vibrant, eclectic sound that mirrors her dynamic persona.

Her passion for Charleston—a genre known for its infectious energy and rhythmic complexity—shines in her spirited track I Wanna Dance the Charleston. This song encapsulates her ability to blend nostalgia with contemporary appeal, inviting audiences to lose themselves in the joy of dance.

In November 2024, Manava released Seasons of Life, a duet with Danish singer Susanne O. This collaborative effort highlights her ability to bridge cultural divides through music, with Manava composing the melody and Susanne penning the poignant lyrics. Meanwhile, her playful track Peach Bubble Tea captures her whimsical side, complete with a lively music video that brings her charismatic vision to life.

Looking ahead, Manava is exploring new horizons, working with Brazilian percussionists to create bossa nova tracks sung in French, English, and Portuguese. Her upcoming album promises to deepen her exploration of swing and Charleston, affirming her love for music that inspires movement and connection.

Manava’s songwriting, split between French and English, reflects her artistic duality. Her French lyrics are warm and intimate, capturing fleeting moments of emotion, while her English compositions exude a playful, quirky charm. This linguistic versatility allows her to connect with diverse audiences, each song a unique expression of her multifaceted personality.

As Manava Lery continues her ascent, she invites us to join her on a journey of rhythm, melody, and dance. Her music is more than entertainment—it’s an invitation to embrace life with a light heart and an open spirit. For anyone seeking an artist who embodies joy, elegance, and creativity, Manava Lery is a name to remember.

Delta of Venus: A Sonic Rebirth with Disengaged b/w Slipping

Nearly three decades ago, Delta of Venus emerged from the unlikeliest of places—a basement practice room in 1993 where three friends with little experience on their chosen instruments came together to create something raw and unfiltered. The band's ethos was simple yet ambitious: to carve out a sound entirely their own by embracing their inexperience. The result was a distinctive blend of shoegaze and indie pop, crafted through sheer experimentation and camaraderie.

Fast forward to 2024, Delta of Venus is back, revitalized and reinvented with their latest release, Disengaged b/w Slipping. This two-track single marks the first new material from the band since their original run ended in 1997, and it carries the weight of years of musical evolution and personal growth.

Ellery Twining’s solo ventures in 2022 (REVENGE) and 2023 (RESULTS) reignited his passion for music. However, it was a creative rut while writing his third solo record that led him to reconnect with Mat, Shawn, and Dawn. What began as a search for inspiration blossomed into the rebirth of Delta of Venus.

The sessions for Disengaged b/w Slipping were recorded at Dirt Floor Recording and Production in February 2024. Though Dawn had to bow out of the project due to travel constraints, the band serendipitously discovered a new vocal powerhouse in Issy, who had recently started working alongside Ellery at Mystic Disc, the town’s beloved record store.

Issy’s vocal contribution was nothing short of extraordinary. In just three hours, she laid down haunting, ethereal vocals for both tracks, earning high praise from producer Eric at Dirt Floor, who described her performance as “a gem.”

Disengaged b/w Slipping showcases Delta of Venus’s growth while remaining true to their original vision. The songs eschew traditional structures, opting instead for interwoven musical movements that evoke the dreamlike essence of shoegaze. The absence of verses, choruses, or solos gives the tracks a sense of fluidity, allowing each element to orbit and complement the others in a carefully crafted sonic architecture.

This release isn’t just a return; it’s a reinvention. Delta of Venus has drawn from their past while embracing a fresh perspective, thanks in part to Ellery’s refined songwriting from his solo work and Issy’s enchanting vocal presence. As they step into this new chapter, one thing is clear: Delta of Venus is once again pushing boundaries, proving that their story is far from over.

Laurie Lewin's "Singing A Song About Christmas": A Timeless Anthem for Empathy and Action

As the holiday season sparkles into view, few songs encapsulate its deeper meaning as poignantly as Laurie Lewin's Singing A Song About Christmas. Released on December 1, 2022, this heartfelt track invites listeners to pause amidst the festive cheer and reflect on the plight of the homeless community. With its unique blend of folk, reggae, and soft rock influences, the song offers a refreshing, thought-provoking take on Christmas—a departure from the standard holiday jingles.

The genesis of Singing A Song About Christmas lies in a moment of raw human connection. Laurie Lewin recalls a cold, rainy day in London when he encountered a busker outside Bakerloo Underground Station. “He was singing the usual Christmassy songs,” Laurie shares, “but in a bitter, sad tone that made me feel quite uncomfortable.” That encounter, juxtaposed against the bustling shoppers and hurried commuters, sparked the idea for a song that would highlight the ‘other side’ of Christmas—the struggles faced by those without a home during what should be the most joyous time of year.

The song’s production journey reflects its layered message. Laurie experimented with several styles, drawing inspiration from Ralph McTell’s Streets of London. Versions ranged from hard rock to reggae before settling on the final folk-reggae-soft rock fusion. Collaborators Paul Kouatchou, Gabby Le Maux, and Kate Le Maux added depth and warmth to the track, recording across diverse locations including Totnes, Exeter, Birmingham, and even the Hatta Fort Hotel in the United Arab Emirates.

While none of the performers are full-time musicians—Laurie himself juggles his music with a career as an international school inspector—their shared passion for storytelling and social impact shines through.

Every penny earned from the track supports Shelter and Crisis at Christmas, two charities dedicated to aiding the homeless. Laurie’s hope is that the song will inspire listeners to act, whether by adding it to their Spotify Christmas playlists or by reaching out to help those in need during the holiday season.

Laurie’s artistic contributions extend beyond this track. As the director of the Voices Around the World Charity Music Project, he has spent years using music as a vehicle for change. Yet, Singing A Song About Christmas holds a special place in his heart—a testament to the enduring power of compassion and creativity.

This holiday season, consider making Laurie Lewin’s Singing A Song About Christmas part of your festive tradition. Its message is clear: the true spirit of Christmas lies not in what we receive but in how we give back to those in need. Let this song remind us all to extend a helping hand—and a listening ear—to those who need it most.
