Record Review: SANSOM – "Burn the Bridges"

From the heart of Brighton’s thriving rock scene emerges SANSOM with Burn the Bridges, a fiery declaration of self-liberation and resilience. Recorded at the renowned Brighton Electric Studios—where the likes of Royal Blood have crafted their signature sounds—this single is a searing testament to breaking free from toxic ties and forging ahead with newfound clarity.
Blending the heavyweight grit of Tigercub, the desert-rock swagger of Queens of the Stone Age, and the anthemic urgency of Foo Fighters, SANSOM delivers a track that pulses with raw emotion and electrifying intensity. The driving instrumentation and seething lyrics embody the cathartic release of confronting those who seek to hold you back. “Burn the bridges to light the way,” SANSOM declares, a mantra that captures the very essence of the song—a controlled blaze that clears the path forward.
The track’s dynamic energy builds from simmering tension into an explosive chorus, mirroring the emotional journey of standing up, cutting ties, and stepping into a brighter future. The production balances grit and clarity, allowing every riff and lyric to hit with maximum impact, solidifying SANSOM’s ability to translate raw emotion into sonic force.
With Burn the Bridges marking the first of four releases this year, SANSOM sets the stage for an unforgettable musical journey—one that promises both intensity and authenticity. This is not just a song; it’s an anthem for anyone who has ever needed to leave the past behind to find their way forward.
Frida NOVA - RebirthA Journey Through Sound and Soul

Few debut albums arrive as fully realized and emotionally resonant as Frida NOVA’s Rebirth. Though “debut” may be a bit of a misnomer—Frida has been composing and performing for years under her given name, Frida Matsdotter—this album marks a distinct turning point in her career. It’s a sonic transformation that bridges her past in jazz, folk, and classical music with a fresh, electrified vision of soul-infused electropop. Rebirth isn’t just a title; it’s a statement of artistic renewal, a bold step into a world where electronic textures and organic instrumentation dance together in perfect harmony.
From the opening notes, Rebirth establishes itself as an album of contrasts—light and shadow, nostalgia and innovation, introspection and euphoria. Frida masterfully fuses elements of jazz, club music, and ambient indie pop into a lush soundscape that feels both timeless and forward-thinking. With nine self-produced tracks, she dives into themes of healing, self-discovery, and the unbreakable human spirit.
Tracks like Rainbow, Lifetime, and Syzygy pulse with an infectious energy, their retro-tinged beats and shimmering synths inviting listeners onto the dance floor. These songs carry an undeniable sense of freedom, as if Frida is shedding past inhibitions and fully embracing her new sonic identity. “It’s pure life force for me,” she says of these upbeat, club-ready tracks, and it’s easy to hear why.
But Rebirth isn’t all about high-energy moments. Songs like Away From Darkness and Unexpected slow things down, wrapping the listener in warm, cinematic layers of sound. There’s a comforting, almost meditative quality to these pieces, reinforcing Frida’s belief in music as a source of healing and connection.
One of the album’s greatest strengths is its authenticity. Frida doesn’t just experiment with sound—she pours herself into every note, crafting music that feels deeply personal yet universally relatable. Her years of experience composing in various genres have given her a unique ability to blend electronic production with live instrumentation, creating a sound that is both intimate and expansive.
Having previously worked with some of Sweden’s most respected jazz musicians, Frida has always had an ear for complex harmonies and rich textures. With Rebirth, she channels that expertise into a more pop-oriented direction, but without losing the depth and sophistication that define her artistry. This balance—between accessibility and artistic integrity—is what makes Rebirth such a compelling listen.
For Frida NOVA, music has always been about more than just sound; it’s a way to connect, to share joy, and to tell stories that resonate. Rebirth is a reflection of that ethos, an album that invites listeners to not only hear her journey but to feel it. It’s an album for dreamers, for seekers, for anyone who has ever found solace in a melody or strength in a beat. As Frida herself puts it, “I want to dance with you!” With Rebirth, she extends that invitation to the world, and it’s one well worth accepting.
Mackzwell - "Hoodwinked" (Single Review)

Mackzwell is a name that’s steadily carving a space in the UK rap scene, and his latest release, Hoodwinked, is a testament to his artistic evolution. Drawing inspiration from hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur, the Guildford-based artist seamlessly blends storytelling with catchy hooks, crafting a track that resonates beyond just the beats. With an official release date of March 15, 2025, Hoodwinked is set to make waves with its gripping narrative and polished production.
At its core, Hoodwinked is a tale of unexpected betrayal, a theme that runs deep through Mackzwell’s lyricism. Much like the animated film of the same name, the song explores the idea that deception often comes from the least expected sources. His delivery is raw yet refined, carrying an emotional weight that makes each verse hit harder.
A key factor elevating Hoodwinked is the synergy between Mackzwell and his collaborators. Vega Jane’s ethereal harmonies add a haunting dimension to the track, complementing the sharp lyrical flow with a melodic counterbalance. Meanwhile, the mix and master by Slice ensures a crisp, immersive sound that enhances the song’s intensity. Each element—vocals, production, and storytelling—works in perfect unison, creating an engaging listening experience.
The significance of this release is undeniable for Mackzwell. As his first track since graduating from ACM, Hoodwinked marks a milestone in his career, showcasing his growth both in skill and confidence. The production quality speaks volumes, setting a new standard for his work moving forward.
Beyond the recording booth, Mackzwell’s presence on stage continues to grow. Fans can catch him headlining at The Boileroom in Guildford on March 22, followed by a performance at The Engine Rooms in Bow, London, on March 23. Having previously shared the stage with notable artists like Lowkey, Stax100, and Ghostface600, Mackzwell is no stranger to high-energy performances that captivate audiences.
In Mackzwell’s own words, “Experiences make music, and they certainly made this one.” That sentiment is evident throughout Hoodwinked, a track that not only solidifies his artistic identity but also promises an exciting future for the rising artist. With its compelling narrative, polished execution, and undeniable authenticity, Hoodwinked isn’t just another release—it’s a statement.
Mist2'9 - "Game Time" Review

In an era where authenticity is often sacrificed for trends, Mist2'9 breaks the mold with their latest single, Game Time. Serving as the first glimpse into their upcoming album, this track is more than just an introduction—it’s a declaration. Hailing from the bustling yet underrated music scene of Bakersfield, California, Mist2'9 brings raw storytelling, sharp lyricism, and undeniable chemistry, all wrapped in a production that commands attention.
Collaborating with longtime friend and fellow artist Yung Mav, Mist2'9 crafts a sonic experience that seamlessly fuses smooth cadences with unfiltered emotion. From the very first beat, Game Time grips listeners, setting the tone with an infectious rhythm that carries a weight of personal conviction. What makes this track truly stand out is its ability to balance raw intensity with polished delivery. Mist2'9 doesn’t just rap over a beat—they ride it, molding their words and flows to enhance every moment of the song.
Influenced by the lyrical giants of the industry, Mist2'9 draws inspiration from Lil Wayne and Eminem, approaching each verse with the mindset of pushing the boundaries of wordplay. And it shows. The verses are filled with clever punchlines and introspective lines that capture the essence of their journey. However, this isn’t just an imitation of their influences—it’s a fresh take that highlights Mist2'9’s own artistic identity.
What adds another layer of intrigue to Game Time is its backstory. The concept stemmed from a real-life moment that left a lasting impression on Mist2'9—turning a negative situation into a creative outlet. That authenticity is felt throughout the track, making it more than just a song—it’s a reflection of resilience, growth, and the hunger to be heard.
Sonically, the track keeps things simple but effective. The beat is straightforward, allowing the lyricism and delivery to take center stage. While many artists lean on overcomplicated instrumentals to carry a song, Mist2'9 and Yung Mav prove that true artistry lies in making a simple beat shine. Their chemistry is evident, built on years of friendship and collaboration, creating an organic synergy that makes the song even more compelling.
Recorded in their hometown and entirely self-mixed and mastered, Game Time is a testament to Mist2'9’s DIY ethos. They’re not just artists—they’re craftsmen, ensuring that every element of their work reflects their vision. While this is only the beginning of their upcoming album’s rollout, it’s clear that Mist2'9 is setting the stage for something bigger.
With an unwavering commitment to their craft and a sound that refuses to be boxed in, Game Time is more than just a debut single—it’s a promise. A promise that Mist2'9 is here to stay, and they’re just getting started.
Lumin – "On My Own" A Refreshing Take on Indie Rock with Depth and Emotion

Some artists chase trends, while others carve their own path. Lumin, an emerging talent from Hurst, Texas, falls firmly into the latter category. His latest single, On My Own, is a testament to the power of raw passion, thoughtful songwriting, and a DIY approach that defies industry norms.
Recorded entirely in his home studio, On My Own doesn't rely on high-end gear or major-label backing—just pure creativity and a deep understanding of melody and emotion. The track blends the infectious energy of Young the Giant with the intricate, offbeat charm of Vampire Weekend, resulting in a sound that feels both familiar and refreshingly original.
At its core, On My Own is a deeply introspective piece. Lumin doesn't just scratch the surface of loneliness, doubt, and faith—he dives headfirst into the complexities of human emotion, navigating the gray areas that mainstream music often overlooks. Rather than presenting a definitive answer, he allows space for reflection, making the song a deeply personal yet widely relatable experience.
While Lumin helmed the songwriting, recording, and production, the track benefited from the expertise of mix engineer Tory G, a connection made through Lumin’s mentor, the two-time Grammy Award-winning producer John-Jon Robinson. Robinson’s advice—to always have another set of ears mix the music—proved invaluable. Tory G’s approach enhanced the track’s impact while preserving its authenticity, resulting in a mix that is both polished and emotionally resonant.
Instrumentally, On My Own strikes a balance between complexity and accessibility. The guitar work is a standout, offering a melodic line that hooks listeners without overpowering the song’s message. It’s clear that Lumin has taken cues from his influences, crafting riffs that feel distinctive yet effortlessly memorable.
Perhaps what makes On My Own most compelling is the journey behind it. From navigating the intricacies of music production to learning the ins and outs of marketing, Lumin has embraced every challenge with an unshakable dedication to his craft. "Music is what I want to do every single day," he says, "and the ability to impact people’s lives through it makes every challenge worthwhile."
With On My Own, Lumin doesn’t just introduce himself to the world—he makes a statement. Thoughtful, sonically rich, and deeply personal, the track proves that music doesn’t need a big budget to leave a lasting impact. It just needs heart. And Lumin has plenty of it.
Sonamó’s “Ma Che Vuó” – A Global Groove That Defies Borders

San Francisco's music scene has always thrived on cultural fusion, but few bands encapsulate that spirit as vividly as Sonamó. Their latest release, "Ma Che Vuó," is a sonic adventure that seamlessly blends the rich, expressive melodies of Naples with the vibrant and pulsating rhythms of Brazil. It's an intoxicating mix that invites listeners to dance, dream, and travel through sound.
At the helm of this genre-bending project is Italian-born Giuseppe Pinto, whose musical vision has long been rooted in cross-cultural collaboration. With "Ma Che Vuó," Sonamó expands their already diverse sonic palette by incorporating the infectious Baião groove, a staple of Brazilian folk music, into the traditional Neapolitan framework. The result? A track that feels both deeply familiar and refreshingly new.
From the very first notes, "Ma Che Vuó" commands attention. The accordion riffs create a nostalgic pull, while the driving percussion keeps the energy soaring. Pinto’s vocals, delivered with unmistakable passion, carry the weight of his heritage while embracing the rhythmic sway of South America. This isn’t just a song—it’s a bridge between continents, a dialogue between traditions, and a celebration of global artistry.
To match the track’s international scope, the accompanying music video takes viewers on a breathtaking journey across three iconic cities: San Francisco, Naples, and Rio de Janeiro. Each location adds its own distinct flavor—San Francisco’s cityscape serves as a testament to multicultural convergence, Naples provides the historic soul, and Rio injects an irresistible tropical vibrancy. Watching it unfold, it’s easy to feel transported, as if hopping between worlds in a matter of beats.
"We wanted this song and video to feel like a passport, transporting listeners through music and movement," Pinto explains. And that’s exactly what Sonamó delivers. "Ma Che Vuó" isn’t just a track—it’s an experience, an invitation to embrace the beauty of musical fusion. With this release, Sonamó continues to prove that great music knows no borders, only boundless possibilities.
LEAVE (feat. MONA KAIA)

FLORUL’s latest single, LEAVE (feat. MONA KAIA), is a high-voltage dive into the heart of electronic music, seamlessly blending cinematic grandeur with dancefloor urgency. As the lead single from his upcoming sophomore EP, the Fremantle-based producer makes a statement—bold, immersive, and unapologetically massive.
From the moment the track ignites, it’s clear FLORUL is in full command of his craft. A pulsing synth-bass grips the foundation, pushing forward with restless momentum, while swelling synths and thunderous percussion create an expansive sonic landscape. The tension builds, only to be elevated further by Mona Kaia’s soaring vocal performance, which injects raw emotion into the mix. Her voice doesn’t just ride the waves of the production—it propels them, adding a human intensity to the track’s electrifying pulse.
It’s this balance between the organic and the synthetic that sets FLORUL apart. LEAVE is not just a club anthem—it’s a visceral experience, crafted for both dark, sweat-drenched dancefloors and introspective, late-night drives. There’s an undeniable energy here, one that refuses to sit still, much like the artist himself.
“I wanted LEAVE to feel massive and cinematic while keeping that raw energy that makes you want to move,” FLORUL shares. Mission accomplished. This is music that not only demands to be heard but felt, vibrating through the bones as much as the speakers.
With a steady rise in Australia’s underground electronic scene, FLORUL has been refining his artistry through years of production and collaboration. If LEAVE is any indication, his upcoming EP is set to push his sound even further—wider, deeper, and more immersive than ever before. One thing is certain: FLORUL is making moves, and he’s bringing us along for the ride.
Fundamental Shift - If Seven Was A Number Review

Some albums defy categorization, and If Seven Was A Number, the latest offering from Adelaide-based duo Fundamental Shift, is a prime example. The ten-track odyssey is as much an exploration of sound as it is a meditation on the human condition, balancing the weight of existential questioning with bursts of pure, unfiltered joy.
Fundamental Shift, the brainchild of Andrew Muecke and Andy Rasheed, is a project devoted to the idea of ‘journey music’—sonic landscapes that feel alive with possibility. This commitment to creativity, free from commercial constraints, gives If Seven Was A Number a rare authenticity. Each track unfolds organically, revealing intricate layers and unexpected textures that reward repeated listens.
Musically, the album is as eclectic as it is cohesive. Muecke’s production stitches together a vibrant tapestry of bass, guitar, and keys, forming the bedrock for Rasheed’s evocative vocals and poetic lyricism. The result is a soundscape where conventional instruments coexist with handcrafted oddities like the knee fiddle, tanpura, and spider-bridged resonator guitar—elements that add an otherworldly depth to the compositions. Rasheed’s drumming, steady yet exploratory, anchors the more ethereal elements, providing a sense of purpose within the album’s dreamy sprawl.
Lyrically, the album traverses themes of love, greed, power, and mental decline, painting vivid images that feel both deeply personal and universally resonant. These themes are not didactic but rather presented as fragments of a larger, evolving narrative—one that unfolds with each track, drawing the listener into a labyrinth of meaning and feeling.
Accompanying this sonic exploration is a full-length art-video experience, where Rasheed’s visual artistry mirrors the album’s surreal, intricate energy. Each track’s video component stands as a piece of art in its own right, heightening the album’s immersive nature. The visuals don’t just complement the music; they expand it, offering new dimensions of interpretation.
If Seven Was A Number is an album that asks for engagement—it isn’t background music; it’s an invitation to experience something deeply considered, something that exists outside of time and trend. It’s for listeners who appreciate the nuance of finely crafted soundscapes and the unpredictability of true artistic exploration. If you’re looking for music that challenges, moves, and ultimately rewards, Fundamental Shift has crafted something truly special.
Spread the word—this is a journey worth taking.
Mortez – "Down With the Devil" (Single Review)

Mortez has always flirted with the darker edges of rock, blending haunting melodies with symphonic depth. But with their latest single, "Down With the Devil," released on February 14, 2025, the duo takes a hard turn into raw, unapologetic grit. This isn’t just another rock track—it’s a defiant anthem of resilience, delivered with the kind of ferocity that demands attention.
The brainchild of Brett Daniels and Rachele Royale, Mortez is a force built on contrasts—melodic yet heavy, theatrical yet grounded in real, human emotion. Daniels, a seasoned session player with deep metal roots, brings the firepower of searing guitar riffs, while Royale, a pop-turned-rock powerhouse, injects soul and intensity into every note. Their chemistry is undeniable, and it’s never been more electrifying than on this track.
"Down With the Devil" channels the high-octane energy of The Pretty Reckless, but with an unmistakable Mortez twist. The song kicks off with an explosive guitar riff, immediately setting the tone for a track that refuses to hold back. Royale’s vocals weave between smoky grit and full-throttle power, delivering lines that wrestle with internal battles but ultimately stand victorious. The chorus is anthemic—bold, infectious, and designed for a stadium full of voices screaming in unison. It’s a sonic punch in the face, but one that leaves you wanting more.
Recorded in their home studio in Los Angeles, the single marks a departure from their previous symphonic-leaning releases like Pray, Castle, and Sirens. While those tracks embraced haunting melodies, Down With the Devil is an all-out rock assault. The decision to step into this heavier realm wasn’t accidental—it was born out of a desire to expand their sonic universe and, as Royale puts it, "melt some faces off."
Thematically, the song isn’t about succumbing to darkness, but rather rejecting it. The title may suggest a dive into the abyss, but its core message is one of defiance: “I ain’t goin’ down with the devil.” It’s a battle cry for anyone who’s ever felt the pull of self-doubt or adversity and chosen to fight back instead.
With an ongoing residency at Noho House, where acts like Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo have graced the stage, Mortez is carving out a reputation as a must-see live act. Fans can expect future performance announcements on their socials, where they’ve also been dropping live footage that captures the intensity of their stage presence.
If Down With the Devil is any indication of what’s to come, Mortez isn’t just stepping into the heavier side of rock—they’re kicking the door down. And honestly? Rock music is better for it.
Rosemary's Sons

Rosemary's Sons is a Dutch Americana/rock band that has been making music on and off since the early 2000s. While they may not be known for reinventing the genre, their ability to craft heartfelt and timeless songs has cemented their place in the scene. One of their most memorable moments came with the release of "Shine," a duet with Dutch superstar Ilse DeLange, which became a true classic hit.
Hailing from Breda, the band's signature sound is driven by the warm and distinctive voice of lead singer Martijn Hagens. They have always embraced the deep roots of North American music traditions, weaving them into their own style with every release. Behind the scenes, former band member and current Racoon guitarist Maarten van Damme has played a key role in shaping their sound as a producer.
Their breakthrough came in 2002 with the single "Shine" featuring Ilse DeLange, which topped the Cyber Top 100 for two weeks and climbed to number 34 in the Dutch Single Top 100. The success carried over into their debut album, All In Hand (produced by Oscar Holleman for Warner Music), which peaked at number 30 in the Dutch Album Top 100.
Three years later, in 2005, they released St. Eleanor’s Park under V2 Records, again produced by Oscar Holleman. This album reached number 45 in the Dutch charts. In 2009, Home Sweet Home (produced by Patrick van Hofwegen for CNR Entertainment) debuted at number 1 on the Dutch Alternative Top 30 and peaked at number 78 in the Dutch Album Top 100.
Rosemary’s Sons have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in rock, including Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Bush, The Cranberries, Bløf, De Dijk, Krezip, and Ilse DeLange. They’ve been a familiar presence in the club circuit and have toured with bands like Zita Swoon and Beef. Their festival résumé includes three performances at Lowlands, along with appearances at Bospop, Paaspop, Indian Summer, and Breda Barst.
Over the years, the band has worked with an impressive lineup of artists. In addition to their iconic collaboration with Ilse DeLange, they’ve teamed up with Stevie Ann, J.W. Roy, and René van Barneveld (Urban Dance Squad, Fatal Flowers). They even collaborated with Armin van Buuren on "Golddigger." Their latest album features contributions from Yori Swart (who has also worked with Ilse DeLange), Merijn van Haren (Navarone), and Maarten van Damme (Racoon), adding even more depth to their evolving sound.
